REVIEW: Lacrimosa - Fassade Nuclear Blast, 2001
6/10
Lacrimosa - Fassade - cover art Lacrimosa released their first demotape almost ten years ago and has since then became THE band to thousands of gothic music fans all over the world. Sold-out tours through Europe and South America, one million albums sold and a 12th position of the German album charts are some of the things they have been able to accomplish in their career but they have also formed a metal/gothic label of their own called Hall Of Sermon. Even though numerous gothic metal bands have been inspired by the Lacrimosa sound they themselves have moved away from the metal sound to a more romantic, pompous and orchestral rock music sound which has also included a collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra. "Fassade" is a classic Lacrimosa release, full of warm melancholy, passionate German vocals, choirs and several orchestras. Tilo Wolff may be a musical genious and he has done a lot for the metal world over the years but I can still not get in the mood for this kind of music. I have never been a big fan of Lacrimosa and I doubt I'll ever be because the music doesn't affect me in any way. "Fassade" is still a very complex and ambitious piece of musical art and if this is your kind of thing you will probably not be disappointed. I love the gothic atmosphere and Anne Nurmi has a beautiful voice but, well, I don't know why I don't like it that much... Yet again a promo album with faded songs, I hate this!
