Lake Of Tears is one of many metal bands from the small city
of Borås in the southwest of Sweden. They started out as early as 1992
when the two death metal bands Carnal Eruption and Forsaken Grief broke up.
Starting out in the traditional Swedish death metal field they have progressed
a lot to play something inbetween melodic death metal and progressive rock
with clean vocals and some kind of a gothic hippie atmosphere. Now go on and
guess what that sounds like... The absolutely horrible cover art almost makes
me feel sick from only looking at it but luckily the music holds a lot more to
experience. I have never been a big fan of the band but they have a certain
charm that is hard not to like. This album is rather mellow while still
maintaining the heavy rock sound and Lake Of Tears has a lot in common with
bands like Katatonia and Tiamat. If you enjoy melancholic gothic rock then
this is something for you if you hanven't discovered the band yet. I am
personally very glad to hear that Jennie Tebler is back again to do some very
nice guest vocals on several songs. She gives at least some colour to an
otherwise rather colourless album. This is the final and fifth album from the
band and even though it is no masterpiece it is a nice way to go. The band
members apparently have some other projects going on such as a dark trance
project called "Ominous One". Stand-out tracks:
"Sorcerers".
