REVIEW: Leviathan - Cold Caress Poem Productions, 2000
5.5/10
Leviathan - Cold Caress - cover art This is the first time I ever hear a metal band from Turkey but apparently they do exist. Leviathan sounds a little like a thrashier version of Old Man´s Child but still with the usual black metal vocals and over-distorted guitars. The music is technical and melodic and especially the first two songs have some beautiful guitarwork. Unfortunately the production is as expected not near as good as Leviathan actually deserves. The result of this is that the instruments sound very thin with the vocals working in the foreground. If they were given a fair chance with a good studio I think these five young Turkish guys could go a long way. Even though the music is not the best of extreme metal Leviathan knows how to handle the instruments and their talent deserves to be noticed outside of Turkey. Metal is what unites us all in the war against mediocrisy. To learn more about the band go visit the label´s website. The album was recorded at Anatolian Studios in Izmir in September of 1999 and produced by Onur Önok.
