REVIEW: Light Is The Language - The Void Falls Silent (EP) Gladiator Records, 2002
6.5/10
Light Is The Language - The Void Falls Silent (EP) - cover art Light Is The Language is a pretty unusual aggressive metalcore band out of Enfield, Connecticut, USA, in the aspect that they embrace spirituality by studying buddhism, taoism and even the kabbalah. I don't know if this shines through in their music but they have are at least not playing the same hardcore / noise metal that most other bands do these days. Instead of only relying on speed and noice they have put their minds to making their music more dynamic while still maintaining the aggressive touch that comes mainly from the hardcore vocals. Even though I live in somewhat of a hardcore / punk music nest in Sweden I have never been that fond of that kind of music. I like it best when it is mixed with metal but then it helps a lot of metal is the predominant ingredience. The music of Light Is The Language lies somewhere between modern nu-metal and hardcore which will surely make a lot of people fall for it but they do not impress me as much as they could have. Being a first effort from a very young band this EP is still very good though and fans of metal-hardcore crossover acts should definitely check it out. I wouldn't be surprised if Light Is The Language will be on the Relapse label in five years time.
