REVIEW: Lipid - Hagridden Casket Music, 2003
6.5/10
Lipid - Hagridden - cover art As if there weren't already enough death / thrash metal bands out there already we are now offered another one. Lipid is a Danish band that formed in the mid-90's. After having a couple of demo recordings and an unsuccessful partnership with the American label Pavement Music they have now ended up with the British company Copro Records / Casket Music which is also the home of the Danish melodic death metallers Withering Surface. The new album "Hagridden" consists solely of old material from the band with re-mastered tracks from their past two self-released mini albums called "God We Have Slain" (1999) and "Hagridden" (2001). The music is essentially mid-paced to semi-fast Bay Area thrash metal with that modern neo-thrash vibe which has become so popular lately. It is groovy, it is energetic, it is very heavy and with a powerful production job from renowned sound wizard Jacob Hansen I am sure that this album will gain the band a lot of fans from all over the globe. The vocals are rough and somewhere between death and thrash vocals. Nothing new but still enjoyable while it lasts. The weakest point is the vocals which I think are a little bit too monotonous and boring at times. Other than that this probably appeals to those of you who still can't get enough of bands like Soilwork, Terror 2000 and Darkane.
