REVIEW: Litania - Totalitarian Order Self-financed, 2004
7/10
Litania - Totalitarian Order - cover art The foundation for the Swedish black metal band Litania was built in 1999 but it was not until two years later that things began to get serious. "Totalitarian Order", the band's third demo thus far, is my first real contact with the band although I've heard of them before. It becomes evident very quickly while listening to this demo that these guys are serious about what they do but above all there is a lot of creativity residing within the band. Litania is not a run of the mill type of a band. They play very riff-happy, melodic and catchy black metal but do not sacrifice aggression, speed nor the mandatory touch of evil spirits. The result is definitely impressive, on the border to excellent at times. The vocals are strong and do never drown in the music and the production is solid thanks to a visit at Mystical Arts Studios in Malmö, owned by the guitarist of fellow Swedish black metallers Misteltein. If you are a fan of Naglfar or Swedish black metal in general I advice you to check out Litania because they are all about quality.
