REVIEW: Lithium - Cold No Fashion Records, 2002
8/10
Lithium - Cold - cover art Sweden's Lithium is the union between Johnny Hagel and Carl Nilsson, two men who have been very successful in the alternative music scene. Hagel used to be a member of Tiamat and Carl Nilsson has been the driving force behind Moth, one of the leading industrial bands in Sweden. The result is somewhat similar to what Deathstars did lately but a little slower and doomier. The dark vocal style sounds very good in most songs and fit the music close to perfect. The music of their debut album is mostly dark dance / electro with a metallic touch. There are quite a few metal bands who experiment with electronics and programming these days but while most of these are metal bands with electro elements I would like to call Lithium an electro band with metal elements. Harsh industrial sampling and melancholic melodies will certainly make a lot of fans of the genre happy. The album was produced by the band themselves and mixed by the former Therion drummer Sami Karppinen. Having listened to this album over and over again now it stands clear to me that Lithium is one of the biggest new hopes for Swedish metal. Stand-out tracks: "Anti Anthem", "Hidden Walls", "Never Be The Same", "Hero In Paradise".
