Ex-Disgorge vocalist Matti Way and Brodequin front man Jamie Bailey teamed up together in late 2003 to give birth to Liturgy, after a while they completed their line up with the addition of Brodequin guitarist and drummer Mike Bailey and Jon Engman respectively. The four piece blasting machine finally saw the light of underground shelves in 2004 with their debut CD “Dawn Of Ash”, released through Unmatched Brutality Records. The opening track of the CD, Shrine Of Moria, welcomes you with the relaxing sound of bells tolling and after a few seconds you go through 8 tracks filled with nothing but extreme brutality, deep growling vocals, blasting drumming and low tuned guitars whose riffs make you feel like an 18 wheeler is revving inside your head. As I got the promo copy of the CD with no lyrics on it I can hardly tell what these guys are about but judging by the songs titles, some weird arrangements on some of the songs, and the ending track (outro), The Acolyte’s Exoneration, in which you listen to something like priests singing sacrosanct choruses accompanied by some eerie sound effects, I can guess they are all about blasphemy which to me is a plus, up the horns!!!!! As a bonus the CD includes two tracks, Cognitive Lust Of Mutilation and Infested With Worms originally recorded by Disgorge and Brodequin respectively. So if you are a fan of talented Brutal Death Metal and/or the bands previously mentioned, I’m quite sure Liturgy’s Dawn Of Ash won’t disappoint you.
