REVIEW: Lord Belial - Angelgrinder No Fashion Records, 2002
7/10
Lord Belial - Angelgrinder - cover art Lord Belial has long been one of the leading Swedish black metal bands and now they have released their fourth full-length album, appropriately entitled "Angelgrinder". I would have loved to see something new from this band since they have been around for ten years by now but instead they stick to the same old formula of fast to mid-paced Swedish black metal with their characteristic melodies. Unfortunately this doesn't impress me that much any longer since I have heard this so many times before. Luckily Lord Belial have collected a fair deal of musical knowledge since they started out and this results in yet another high quality black metal release. The only thing that I don't like that much about this album is that there are too many slower passages which doesn't really fit the Lord Belial sound. I would be a lot happier if they would have included a little more speed, rage and melody as on the amazing fourth track "Burn The Kingdom Of Christ" which sounds a little like Dark Funeral in their prime. Perhaps they don't want to play that fast all the time but if not they have to find some way to make it sound interesting. A quality release that should please fans of Swedish black metal.
