REVIEW: Lord Belial - Nocturnal Beast Regain Records, 2005
7/10
Lord Belial - Nocturnal Beast - cover art Lord Belial has been one of the most reliable bands on the Swedish black metal scene since the mid 90s. Despite several setbacks they have worked hard towards the same goal throughout these years and hard work always pays off in the end. While others have faded way, Lord Belial have never given up and the band have earned themselves a position as one of the leading bands in the second league of black metal. Despite a certain level of predictability and never reaching the top of the mountain they have delivered solid black metal since their 1995 debut "Kiss The Goat". You know what you get and that is also the case with their latest black opus "Nocturnal Beast", a traditional Lord Belial album focused on mid-paced black metal with steady vocals, relaxing melodies and a few nice leads. Far from exciting but comfortable and satisfactory. Sometimes you don't feel like having a five course dinner, a plate of pancakes might be enough. It's all a matter of moods. This is a taste you will recognize at once, for good and for bad.
