REVIEW: Loss - Verdict Of Posterity Scarlet Records, 2001
7/10
Loss - Verdict Of Posterity - cover art This new album from the brutal Swedes of Loss is a clear proof that even though a band plays death metal you need a good vocalist. They do have two vocalists (or perhaps just one vocalist altering his voice, not sure about that) but neither of them are of the quality needed to reach the top of the mountain among the tough competition of today. Fortunately this doesn't completely ruin the album and the vocals actually sound extraordinary good at a few places like the chorus of "Worship This". The death metal that Loss has devoted their instruments to is of a rather dark nature, not as brutal as many American bands and not quite as melodic as In Flames. They don't have many slower passages but they do have a fair share of both brutal vocals, powerful riffs and nice melodic displays of technical skill. What makes Loss less interesting is the aforementioned annoying vocals and occationally their music feels a little monotonous but if you're a death metal fan you shouldn't have any problems digesting this album as well. After all, apart from these objections it is a good release with fairly nice music.
