REVIEW: Lost Soul's Cry - Promo 2002 Self-financed, 2002
7/10
Lost Soul's Cry - Promo 2002 - cover art Lost Soul’s Cry successfully meshes raw black metal with a bit of majesticism and old thrash. Successfully meaning there is a sense of direction and style, not three differing styles thrown in and poorly sewn together. Speed-picking and (programmed) blasting are plentiful. This is often topped with keyboard ‘wahs’, steady thrash phases, and a generous number of lofty, “showy” guitar solos. The vocals are excellent with perfect grittiness and pitch. Horrific, enunciated projection, this sort is ideal! Even the one and only death metal growl in this album is exceptional. Chord-bending is used quite often, creating character within the songs. For someone like me who doesn’t like to wear more than two colors at once, or drink juice blended with too many fruits, the variation is a little too much. A little less from the sample tray could do no wrong, solos could be a little more compact, the sound of the drums could be fine-tuned and programming perfected so that the one flaw doesn’t exist!
