REVIEW: Luca Turilli - The Infinite Wonders Of Creation Magic Circle Music, 2006
7/10
Luca Turilli - The Infinite Wonders Of Creation - cover art Luca Turilli is of course mostly known for being the creative mastermind of Italian fantasy metallers and Manowar heirs Rhapsody. Despite the hard work for his main band he has found the time to write material for two solo albums and now it is time for a third one to be unveiled. It is often an unfortunate fact that the more popular a band becomes the less creative they tend to be, perhaps a result of the pressure applied when everyone wants a piece of you. This has been the case with Rhapsody and also his solo project. I still enjoy the new releases from both bands but there is something missing, that creative spark and youthful energy of a debutant that put its mark on the early releases. I don't doubt the fact that Luca Turilli is a magnificent talent both as a composer and musician and his solo debut "King Of The Nordic Twilight" was a wonderful, unique and personal album that I still give a spin in my cd player once in a while.

"The Infinite Wonders Of Creation" once again feature Olaf Hayer on vocals (frequently accompanied by guest singer Bridget Fogle whose voice is beautiful but she is not exceptionally skilled as a singer), Sascha Paeth on bass and Robert Hunecke-Rizzo on drums. It is the final part in Luca's trilogy but contrary to the first two albums this one is not centered lyrically around a fantasy concept but is dedicated to Mother Earth herself. It is easy to recognize the characteristic composer style of Mr. Turilli and fans of his work in general will most likely not have a hard time swallowing this as well. There is a choir used on this album which I think Tristania would have liked to feature on their albums because they do a great job. Despite the epic proportions and very ambitious nature of the third part of the trilogy I find it lacking memorable songs and every single song just seem to float into another. It attracts you at first but then your attention starts drifting elsewhere. Definitely not his best work to date.
