Finland's Lullacry continue to move into mainstream rock domains with their fourth album. With the tender voice of Tanja Lainio leading the way for the second time, replacing former vocalist Tanja Kemppainen (yes, from one Tanja to another), they will surely attract many fans with their more uptempo version of gothic rock / metal in the vein of Lacuna Coil & Co. Fronting eye-candy is a stellar career move, isn't it? I'm not saying that girls or women are judged by their looks or that it's wrong but in this case it's rather obvious to me. Lullacry was at least a slightly interesting name when they released "Be My God" in 2001 but since then they have blended in with the modern rock / metal scene and the rather unpersonal singing style and weak voice of the new front lady tends to turn this album into a rather typical pop / rock album, albeit in a heavier and sharper package. The opener "Perfect Tonight" does show certain qualities musicwise, as do a few other songs on occasion, but overall this album lack most of the qualities we have come to associate with the Finnish metal scene. "Killing Time" is a pretty entertaining song though and the most aggressive one of the album. The concept is too simple and something needs to happen until the next album.
