REVIEW: Luna Ad Noctum - Dimness Profound Golden Lake Productions, 2003
7/10
Luna Ad Noctum - Dimness Profound - cover art This is my first encounter with the Polish band Luna Ad Noctum. "Dimness' Profound" is their debut album and it is now being re-released worldwide by the small Scottish label Golden Lake Productions. The album was originally released last year in Poland only through Pagan Records. It seems strange to me that no bigger label would be interested in the re-release since this is one of the most promising new black metal bands I've heard in a while. Luna Ad Noctum owes a lot to the Norwegian scene and it is not difficult to spot similarities to bands like Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and even old Tristania. It is an aggressive, fast and malevolent black metal album that should please many fans of the genre. The members of the band handle their instruments with ease and if they continue to work hard in the future great things should come for this band. I am particularly impressed by the vocalist who is one of the best black metal vocalists I have ever heard. He uses his voice well and can hold his screams very long. Having never even heard of this band before, Luna Ad Noctum turned out to be a positive surprise, something that is becoming more and more unusual these days it seems. Stand-out tracks: "The Evil's God (Await Us)".
