REVIEW: Lunar Aurora - Weltengänger Voices Productions, 1996
8.5/10
Lunar Aurora - Weltengänger - cover art Germany is not probably the most eminent country when it comes to black metal bands, but Lunar Aurora is placed amongst the ones that perform high quality music. I know many people think German black metal bands are bunchs of light-hearted kids wanting to be the new Dimmu Borgir, but, fortunately for us, that mythic country offered interesting bands from time to time, and Lunar Aurora was one of these. Indeed, it was a real surprise for me to listen to this LP. “Weltengänger” was the band´s first full-length album and it meant an awesome debut. From cover art to production, everything is dark and sinister, being the music violent and unrelenting black metal at high speed with synths used in a rather sensible way, giving the perfect background to the songs without emerging with flippant passages. The incredible melodies touched by inspiration crown the whole, so I´d say “Weltengänger” is a great album that has all the things black metal is supposed to feature, with a sound dirty enough to feel grim and clean enough to recognize each instrument. Verses are sung in German and English and the tracks are long, until the point the album is closed with 11 minutes tune “Conqueror of the Ember Moon”. A negative point could be found in its steady fast pace that could become monotonous at times; there´s a certain lack of mid tempos that could provide variety to the overall impression. But this trait is not important at all when it´s played cause the album has a cruel atmosphere of its own, and manages to keep it breathing all along the CD. This is pure fast black metal full of honesty and nightly hate.
