"Vredens Tid" (The Time Of Wrath) is the fourth studio album from Swedish viking metallers Månegarm who have been one of the leading acts within this limited genre since the release of their 1998 debut "Nordstjärnans Tidsålder". Ancient times and the cultural heritage of the viking age has been revisited once more. Honour, mythology, pride, sword fighting and violent ends are a few keywords that can come to use when discussing the lyrical concept of the album. "Vredens Tid" is a tribute to the past and the values of a time long since gone. Wonderful artwork by the reknown Belgian artist Kris Verwimp suitably cover the album booklet. Renewal is difficult for a band such as Månegarm but despite sticking with their characteristic and decently personal style they have not written the same album once more. It's catchy, epic and violent layered with folk music influenced melodies and guest violin from the band's friend Janne Lindkvist. Raspy clean choruses, aggressive black / death vocals and an occasional female voice courtesy of Umer Mossige-Norheim diversifies the album further. The song writing is solid but does tend to seem slightly repetitive once in a while. Songs such as the title track and "Frekastein" do however help consolidate their status as one of the finest viking metal bands of today. When there are no Einherjer's or Mithotyn's around nomore it gets lonely at the top but Månegarm continue to carry the torch high. The calm, melancholi finale "Segervisa" is also quite an interesting piece.
