REVIEW: Mötley Crüe - Carnival Of Sins - Live Steamhammer Records, 2006
7.5/10
Mötley Crüe - Carnival Of Sins - Live - cover art Under exclusive license from Mötley Crüe's own company, the German leading independent rock and metal distributor SPV releases this double live album from the living legends from the 80s. One of the paragons of the rock 'n roll lifestyle and sleaze rock in general, they reunited for highly successful worldwide touring which spawned this collection of songs. "Carnival Of Sins" is for all of you who did not have the possibility to go to one of the band's amazing shows and would like to smell some of the atmosphere or for those of you who were lucky enough to experience it and would like to have something to remember it by. Despite being exceptionally lousy role models for anything remotely similar to decent manners, the infamous foursome of Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Vince Neil and Mick Mars have written perpetual rock hits such as "Shout At The Devil", "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Primal Scream" and the unforgettable classic "Dr. Feelgood".

As amazingly bright Mötley Crüe are able to shine in their finest moments, as amazingly disappointing are their ballad nose-dives when everything seems to fall apart (with an exception for "Home Sweet Home" which is actually quite nice). Lacking any sense of originality, these songs appear to have been written for one single purpose: to score with a few more fans of the opposite sex. After all, sex, drugs and rock 'n roll is what it has been all about. I sometimes wonder how many extra dollars have dropped down into their pockets du to the tabloids? Even though I despise everything about Mötley Crüe I admire their musical accomplishments and I love some of their songs even to this day as much as anyone else. The only thing I don't quite understand is why anyone but a diehard fan of the band buys something like this? Pick up the DVD instead.
