REVIEW: M.T.F. - Wreckage Self-financed, 2001
6/10
M.T.F. - Wreckage - cover art Here is an independent release by a band that reminds me a lot of Pantera with the odd melodic harmony. Things seem to plod along at a medium pace with pretty predictable riffs and beats until "The Weight I Need", where guitarists Jason and Robert throw in some good thrash picking. Then it's back to the metal core, with a bouncy part here and Phil Anselmo-like vocals there. I think that this would have made more of an impact 10 years ago, but to my ears, at least, it's musical drudgery with errant traces of quality. I'm sure M.T.F. can make a good chunk of change playing bars and all-ages shows for a while yet, but this just isn't for me. I really had trouble listening to the CD in its entirety, my hand desperately reaching for the skip button to deliver me from redundancy. I couldn't even be bothered to check the website.
