REVIEW: Machine Men - Scars And Wounds Dynamic Arts Records, 2003
9.5/10
Machine Men - Scars And Wounds - cover art These guys are very young, just above twenty, and heavily influenced by Iron Maiden. But, their debut album "Scars and Wounds" is one of the best debut albums I have heard in a long time. It sounds very mature, very experienced and so well played. There are 8 tracks on it, plus one hidden, totalling it to nine. The sound is all about heavy metal, influenced a lot by Iron Maiden, especially in the vocal part. The music, however, is fresh and original. The riffs are catchy and combined with such ease that the music simply flows through loudspeakers and it is very enjoyable. Then, there are very nice guitar passages that always guide you in the specific theme of the song or in its mood. And, if you want to say about someone that he sings like Bruce Dickinson, he must be a rather good singer. And that’s exactly the case here . There is no weak song on the entire album. Perhaps the best one is the title track "Scars and Wounds", but "The Beginning of the End" is also excellent, with nice slow, ballad parts and atmosphere. It really is surprising, if not anything else, that this album is done so good by such a young band. Speaking about the recording it’s almost perfect. Everything is very hearable, and all the levels are where they are supposed to be, and the way it all sounds is just what they needed. Really an album that all Metal freaks should look for. I myself am not a HM fan, but this is really good.
