REVIEW: Mahavatar - Demo 2000 (demo EP) Self-financed, 2000
7/10
Mahavatar - Demo 2000 (demo EP) - cover art Mahavatar is a new American upcoming band consisting of people of different nationalities who have joined forces with the common interest and ambition to create the music of their inner selves. Since there are so many different people in the band the music is very hard to desribe because Mahavatar has managed to create their very own little blend of death metal, hardcore, ethnic and modern rock influences. The band should be very proud and happy about the fact that they have been blessed with a very charismatic and versatile female vocalist with a dark, raspy and highly effective voice which is most clearly shown in the amazing song "The Time Has Come" which is an emotional but still very heavy piece. The heaviest songs, that is the aforementioned and "BH", are by far the best ones on this demo and this is the environment where the female vocalist's voice fits in best. The other two songs are a little more mellow and doesn't really suit her style of singing. Aggression and heaviness is what Mahavatar should try to develop and together with those vocals they can really become a band for the 21st century. This demo has a sound quality better than many label releases and you kind of wonder what you would need a record company behind you for nowadays (yest, I know, they don't merely pay for the studio...)?
