Scotland's Man Must Die first appeared on Relapse in 2007 with The Human Condition, a nice disc, however
a bit too Deathcore, nothing jumping off and hitting you in the face. Most reviews took a negative outlook and Man Must Die took it to heart. This latest slab o' Metal, again on the esteemed Relapse label, portends a reinvigorated,
angry band. They go a bit more traditional, eager to more fully cement themselves in the Death Metal genre, and successfully develop a record which far
exceeds the last one in both scope and power.
First of all, these guys are amazingly technical, especially the guitar work, each note purposeful and precise, relevant and rigorous. The songs quake with thunderous riffs and super solos that are so appealingly melodic, it's hard not to get caught up in the groove with a little head bang and a toe tap. The solo on "Hide The Knives" is so catchy, for a moment you might forget it's Death Metal. There's actually quite a few nice numbers on this disc. "Gainsayers," "Kill It, Skin It, Wear It," and "It Comes In Threes," are all high charged riffage monsters, yet melodic charmers.
Man Must Die took the negative reviews and turned them into a positive by addressing every issue with the last album, molding this disc with both their distinct sound and new method of delivery. To be honest, I'm quite surprised by how impressive this long spinner is. These guys have thrown down the gauntlet, forging ahead in the scene and their career.
