REVIEW: Manowar - Kings Of Metal Atlantic Records, 1988
7/10
Manowar - Kings Of Metal - cover art Manowar plays an important part in the history of metal and has been a big influence to a large number of the early power metal bands. Even though I've never been a big fan of Manowar I must say that they are a band of very talented musicians and they have a great vocalist in Eric Adams. The music is rather slow, heavy and very melodic with one instrumental extremely fast song called "Sting Of The Bumblebee" that takes a great musician to play. The vocals are traditional metal style, somewhere between Iron Maiden and many of the new power metal bands. There are a couple of really great songs on this album like "Wheels Of Fire", "The Crown And The Ring" and "Pleasure Slave" but it all sounds a little too old for me to really like it (and I seem to have grown out pf the power metal genre). However, Manowar is one of the first really big metal bands together with other giants like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Metallica and they will hold a place for all eternity in the history of metal and music in general. If this review would have been done ten years ago this album would probably have been ranked higher but now there are so many other great bands out there.
