REVIEW: Marduk - Plague Angel Blooddawn Productions, 2004
9/10
Marduk - Plague Angel - cover art Being one of the leading black metal bands in the world, Sweden's Marduk have a lot of expectations to live up to when a new album is released. So far they have had no problems whatsoever to live up to them and the brand new album "Plague Angel" is no exception. Musically it is a logical successor to "World Funeral" but in many ways it is more extreme. It is faster, rawer and more minimalistic than the previous album. The opening track, "The Hangman Of Prague", starts off with an ominous intro before all hell breaks loose and it is definitely one of the highlights of the album and one of the best Marduk songs ever. The new vocalist Mortuus (previously with Swedish black metallers Funeral Mist under the alias Arioch) makes a great debut and even though he doesn't quite have the same strength in his voice as Legion did I am sure many fans of the band will appreciate his diversity as a black metal vocalist. With "Plague Angel", Marduk defends and fortifies their positions as one of the finest performers in extreme music today. Recommended to anyone who appreciate music for what it is.
