2 ½ years have passed since the release of "Plague Angel" and Sweden's leading black metallers Marduk now finally return with "Rom 5:12", an album that not only follows the same cover art concept as its predecessor but also marks a continuation of the musical path. Marduk has become a much more diverse black metal act since their early speed worshipping releases and while devastating guitar riffs and blasting drum beats still are the most important ingrediences of their music one can easily tell that tradition heavy metal influences play an important part in the creative process of crafting some of the most blasphemous music ever heard. This is particularly noticebale in a coiple of songs on this album such as "Womb Of Perishableness". This is by no means a negative remark, on the contrary it makes a Marduk listening session even more interesting. This time around the band have enlisted a couple of guests to perform on the album. Former Marduk vocalist Joakim "Grave" Göthberg can be heard screaming on "Cold Mouth Prayer" and Primordial frontman Alan Averill makes a very impressive appearance on "Accuser / Opposer" which features very nice dual vocals between Alan and Mortuus. On top of this the industrial act Arditi have composed a track together with the band. Unfortunately I think "Rom 5:12" is missing some of the sheer intensity of "Plague Angel" but it still is the strongest black metal release of 2007 this far in my opinion.
