REVIEW: Marigold, The - Divisional Black Desert Records, 2004
3/10
Marigold, The - Divisional - cover art The Marigold is an Italian trio that offers us rock, influenced by, among others, The Cure and Alice In Chains. With bands like that in the luggage they have a lot to live up to, and they sure try hard. Their album “Divisional”, witch is released on Black Desert Records, has got a dark, atmospheric feeling to it. Some of the tracks start with a good riff, and one is led to believe that this will be a good song. Unfortunately that is never the case. The Marigold write songs completely without any hook and almost completely liberated from anything that can be called interesting. A few good riffs do not compensate for the fact that everything else is boring. Luckily the album is short (especially if we’re not counting the hidden track) and I’m rather quickly freed from the misery of listening to it. If you like Cure and Alice In Chains, listen to them instead of this record.
