REVIEW: Maryslim - Maryslim White Jazz Records, 2002
4/10
Maryslim - Maryslim - cover art Maryslim is the latest newcomer from Sweden who ride on the wave of success created by bands like Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters and Nomads. All these bands have their roots in the Stockholm rock scene (several of them have also been playing death metal earlier on) and to this they have added the dirty sound that comes from the Sunlight Studio. All these bands sound like a mix of AC/DC, punk rock and Entombed. I can't help it but I can't stand any of these new Swedish rock bands and it is just the same with Maryslim. The music is nothing but noise and I can't see why anyone would deliberately want to sound that way. Well, now I'm way off on exaggeration road but there is something about these bands that doesn't appeal to me. The guitars go off too high and try to cut through your brain, the vocals are only annoying and the lyrics are some of the worst you can find in the music business. If you enjoy good ol' dirty rock'n'roll I would recommend you this band and the rest of the Swedish elite but if you are a metal fan like me I would stay away from this release as much as The Hellacopters and Backyard Babies (who have still made a few nice songs).
