REVIEW: Maudlin Of The Well - Leaving Your Body Map Dark Symphonies, 2001
7/10
Maudlin Of The Well - Leaving Your Body Map - cover art Since I have just reviewed the new album "Bath" from Maudlin Of The Well this review is rather unnecessary since it will be virtually the same one. Most of the death metal tracks seem to have been placed on this cd though which unfortunately doesn't make it better than "Bath". The best tracks have been placed on "Bath" although "Leaving The Body Map" is more aggressive and metal-ish. Maudlin Of The Well creates music that holds a purpose namely to bring the listener into a higher level of conciousness in the spirit of their mentor and teacher Dr. Yusef Lateef, an atonal pioneer and discoverer of so called autophysiopsychic music. This might sound as new age crap to you and to tell you the truth it probably is because I am not affected in any way from the music (not that I know of anyway). Music can certainly affect people emotionally but I doubt that you can achieve a higher level of conciousness from listening to it, if there even is such a thing. If you are looking for musical adventures then Maudlin Of The Well might be the perfect band to start your search with.
