REVIEW: Megadeth - Countdown to extinction Capitol Records, 1992
9.5/10
Megadeth - Countdown to extinction - cover art Now Megadeth has had the chance to play together for a couple of years without having to worry about line-up changes and the result is extraordinary. This is probably their best album so far - the music is more melodic, a little heavier than before, sharper but still as fast as on the first releases. The vocals are also even better than before - sharp, aggressive and filled with energy and emotions. The songs are mostly about insanity and governmental violence and oppression but there are also a very good song about the extinction of the species on Earth - Countdown to extinction - which is also the name of the album. This is also what this album is about; we humans are destroying our own lives as well as everything else on Earth. If we don't try our absolute best to preserve what still is to be saved the countdown to extinction will sooner or later be accomplished. As usual most of the music has been composed by Dave Mustaine himself but on this album the rest of the band has been allowed to contribute to the music more than before. This is a very good album but there is a lot more to come from the speed metal band Megadeth!
