REVIEW: Megadeth - Cryptic writings Capitol Records, 1997
10/10
Megadeth - Cryptic writings - cover art Megadeth continues to develop and change with no album being the same as the previous one. This one is more emotional and slightly less heavy than Youthanasia but it's still fast and melodic music as always from the band. The lyrics are mostly about human emotions with trust and as the main theme and the vocals aren't as aggressive as before but they are very well done as you can expect from Dave Mustaine. This was the last album where Nick Menza played the drums and he was replaced on the next album by Jimmy DeGrasso. This is absolutely one of the best Megadeth releases so far - it's heavy and aggressive but also emotional. Fast speed metal of the best kind yet again from one of the best metal bands ever. It's not as long as a Metallica album but it's filled with energy without long instrumental interludes.
