The Boston based Meliah Rage was formed in 1985 and in 1988 they released their major label debut "Kill To Survive" for Atlantic Records. Since 1996 they have been rather quiet with the exception for the release of their 1992 recording "Unfinished Business" in 2002 which features Godsmack frontman Sully Erna on drums. That recording is actually included as a bonus disc on their latest album. For "Barely Human" the band reunited with a new vocalist named Paul Souza and drummer Barry Spillberg of fellow Boston veteran thrashers Wargasm. Musically Meliah Rage has most in common with the Bay Area thrash metal bands from the 80s such as Death Angel, Exodus, Forbidden etc. but it becomes evident that they also have a love for classic hard rock and heavy metal from the same time period. "Barely Human" contains several catchy tunes with sing-along choruses such as "Hate Machine" and "Ungodly" but they also have a raw and aggressive edge further enhanced by Paul Souza's powerful voice. The material on the album is even and solid and would probably work well in a live situation (I have not had the chance to catch them on stage yet) but in the end the music feels a little bit too simple and repetitive to make it an obvious target for your money spending.
