This is
the new generation of Metallica albums for the nineties - the band has cut
their long hair off, the music is a little slower but still as heavy is before
and now with a kind of jazzy touch. There is a whole new groove to this album
that has not been heard on their previous releases. Perhaps the music is a
little slower than before but it's still heavy and the vocals are still
rather aggressive although a lot of metal fans think that this is the
beginning of the end of Metallica. I definitely don't think so - Load is a
very good album with melodic heavy metal of the best kind. Something that is a
little sad is that the same thing has happened to Metallica as to most other
metal bands when they have made a lot of money - they stop writing aggressive
or provocative lyrics. Metallica have left the political and environmental
path they were into on their earlier albums. Now the lyrics without any
exceptions deal with human emotions of different kinds. I'm not saying that
the lyrics are bad or that the music itself is bad, I only feel that this
development is a bit unlucky. People often seem to care for other people only
if they can profit from it themselves. When they have what they want they can
care more about themselves and not bother caring about others. Be sure to
understand that I´m not accusing Metallica to be less caring about others,
I'm just saying this is often the case. However this album is a very good one
and I think that non-metal fans will also like it. You also get lots of good
music for your money if you buy this record - fourteen songs and more than 75
minutes of pure musical pleasure.
