Another great release from the biggest metal band ever. There
isn't really much to tell about this album and it seems to me rather useless
reviewing Metallica music - when have you ever seen a bad review of their
albums? As usual when it comes to Metallica it consists of heavy, melodic and
very fast metal with great aggressive vocals from James Hetfield. Every metal
band must of course have at least one "suicide song" and so does Metallica -
the fourth track on this album, Fade to black - but this one is really
great, in my opinion one of the best Metallica songs ever. That one is also a
slow ballad-like song. The other songs on the album are mostly very fast and
aggressive except for the instrumental final track The call of Ktulu,
another great piece of Metallica music art. The lyrics on this album are a
little bit different from the ones on Kill 'em all and Master of
puppets since some of them start dealing with human emotions and politics.
Metallica is now beginning to get more mature and develops both musically and
lyrically all the time. That is the difference between Metallica and most
other metal bands - their ability to change and develop - and one of the
reasons for their extremely successful and long career. They manage to change
direction several times without losing control and still produce great music,
something a lot of bands have tried but often failed in one way or another. If
you like good music you should own all Metallica albums and this one is
probably one of their best.
