This album starts off with what has by now become the obligatory intro and then flows into the rest of the album. I would describe this band as not just thrash metal for that is far too simple, I would say something more along the lines of technical thrash/death metal with a slight propensity to aim more towards thrash. The vocals on this release are something of a conundrum, mainly because when I think thrash vocals I think of people like Max Cavalera (Beneath the Remains and Arise era Sepultura), Mille Petrozza (Extreme Aggression and Coma of Souls era Kreator), and Tom Araya (Reign in Blood era Slayer). But the vocals on this release really are not like those aforementioned vocalists, that is where the death metal aspect kicks in, they remind me a little of a mix between old Pantera vocals with death growling thrown in to make it more intense, whatever they were aiming for it suits the music pretty well.
The overall musicianship is good, they have a fairly standard drummer (he’s better at higher speeds), some good guitar work that is at once “old school” enough to appeal to old thrash fans and technical enough to appeal to “modern” thrash fans (plus there are solos peppered throughout the album and everyone is a fan of those, right?). A plus for me is that you are actually able to hear the bass about 75% of the time which adds to the technical sound of the band. Speed is also a factor in their sound being that many thrash bands are known for very fast songs there are times when Methedras are in danger of delving more into the mid-tempo range which does not suit them as well as speed does. The production is decent and I have no real complaints in this regard other than that it could be better, then again production can almost always be better. Overall I was fairly impressed with this album, especially since I am not a huge thrash metal fan, there are definite aspects that could be significantly bettered but this is a good somewhat unique sounding release. I would recommend this to any thrash or death metal fan with an open mind.
