REVIEW: Michael Schenker Group - Tales of Rock N Roll - 25 Year Celebration Armageddon Music, 2006
7/10
Michael Schenker Group - Tales of Rock N Roll - 25 Year Celebration - cover art Although Mr. Schenker doesn't quite know how to deal with life in general very well he does know how to handle his guitar. That is something no-one can ever take from him. The German axe master has been one of the most important front figures of melodic rock for three decades by now and "Tales Of Rock N' Roll" contains some of his finest work since quite some time ago. Classic hard rock riffs, melodic vocal lines and passionate choruses, everything the melodic rock fan could ever want from a recording. Vocalists ranging from Graham Bonnet to Kelly Keeling (yes, Baton Rouge wrote a few great tunes) make sure that the vocal performances are kept on very high level and also add diversity to the album. No news really but good, solid song writing and a stellar display of excellent technical skills from all participating musicians as always. Many bands of today often get stuck on formulaic song writing but this is not an issue for Michael Schenker. This is fluent, melodic and not all too predictable. Good work but, like I said before, no pioneers of the future.
