REVIEW: Mighty D. - The Last Rise Iron Glory Records, 2004
7/10
Mighty D. - The Last Rise - cover art Mighty D. are Germans and play a sort of Melodic Death Metal with brutal and female vocals. The Last Rise begins with "Distance Of Night", which is partly good but nothing special. However it follows "Break the Silence" which is based on a good main theme. The next two songs ("Into Mist" and "Misanthropist") are rather indifferent. Then follows two small masterpieces: The atmospheric "Dying Rose", which differentiates due to the vocals of Carmen and the slowing down of rhythm, and then "The Last Rise", which I could characterize as "techno- or prog-death" due to the constant changes of melodies. "Dreams Of A Shadow" is a good track with alternation between coarse and female vocals and slow and fast paces. The next two songs ("Celebral Rage" and "Odem Of Dawn Snowy Path") are two typical death songs, the latter a bit slower. The "Dreams of Shadow" is a good techno-death track. And the CD ends with an acoustic version of "Dying Rose". In general Mighty D. offer us a good release with interesting variety of ideas and influences, but the combination is not always successful. Some tracks distinguish, while some others are left behind. However the fact that they managed to compose a few remarkable songs, and their mood to experiment leaves good hope for the future.
