The furious extreme metal trio MindGrinder was formed in 1998 in Norway’s city of Notodden and… Well, so much for the historical background.
Nowadays, six years and two demos after the start, founding members Titan (guitars), Nitrous (guitars) and Cosmocrator (vocals, bass, programming; ex-Source of Tide, Windir, Zyklon) are finally ready to unleash their debut full-length audio-beast upon us. Actually, "MindTech" was recorded in 2000 under the guidance of Thorbjørn Akkerhaugen at his Akkerhaugen Lydstudio (a.o. Emperor, Zyklon, Aeturnus), but the release had to be delayed due to some problems with the band's then-label. However, due to their unquestionable skills, MindGrinder managed to sign to Samoth's Nocturnal Art Productions half a year ago, and here it is now – a sound-beast built of 10 smashing cuts and a video for the track "Fire & Equanimity".
To be more precise, what awaits you on this album is a solid portion of cutthroat, devastating, mainly mid-tempo death metal with splendid guitar work, machine drumming and slight, I mean really very slight, keyboard backgrounds every now and then. What comes first to mind while listening to "MindTech" are some strong reminiscences to Morbid Angel’s trademark offerings, especially in songs like "War Solution", "Human Error", "Sadistic Images", etc., but offered in a definitely more diverse and catchy manner. To put it short – old-school brutality meets some contemporary intrusions. Doubtlessly a must-have!
