Mind Gate is a young Polish band that should please music lovers who appreciate Dream Theater instrumentalism where one scale is followed by another and it's impossible to predict what will happen next. Mind Gate do however have more to offer. They're decent song writers and are not afraid to blend in quite aggressive thrash riffs once in a while and some growling vocals now and then help maintain a further sense of violence aggression. Except for the occasional growls, the clean vocals are mostly very melodic and passionate, delivering a highly emotional effect. One or two oriental influences walk hand in hand with ethereal piano passages, impressive keyboard solos and intricate guitar work that altogether result in a very rich musical texture. Mind Gate have composed a quite interesting album but despite the extreme instrumental skills of the individual band members it is difficult to find structure and harmony in their music. The vocals are in general more impressive however although the less frequent female vocals add little to the overall picture in my humble opinion. Good work but it feels as if they try too hard. It is a cliché but sometimes less is actually more.
