This album may take a couple of listens before you can hear the music being played. At first you may hear only noise and screaming. You may think every song sounds exactly the same. You may get turned off from Minus, thinking that all they are doing is wasting your time. If you don’t hear what’s actually happening here, then listen to it again. If you do give these guys a chance and still don’t like it, then that’s your prerogative. Just don’t try and say Minus is all about noise, because then you’ll be proven that you aren’t very smart. Describing Minus’ complex sound is a hard thing to do. The music contained within these 11 Tracks is as unpredictable as free jazz. It’s almost like Minus’ rage is a burst of improvisation. It’s hardcore, but that’s too simple a description. These guys are original, combining several genres of music (industrial, hardcore, thrash, jazz, punk, metal). If anything they are before their time. You could almost describe them as mathcore, but still they are smarter than that. How about I go out on a limb and describe them as sciencecore. Ha, that’s fucking dumb I know. All I’m trying to get across is the fact that this Icelandic band is smart, and brutal as fuck. They need to be heard, then maybe you can come up with a better description than I can. Krummi’s vocals are demonic which is a perfect fit to their crushing musical abilities. Minus has a lot of passion for their style of music, which comes across huge in 'Jesus Christ Bobby'. You can’t help but feel your skull caving in by their piercing rhythm, and pounding beats. Each song bounces from genre to genre thrashing out unconventional mad noise. If you are the type of person who try’s to only listen to unique music, then check this band/album out. This disk can get a little redundant, especially after “Arctic Exhibition”. But you’ve got to be strong, because there’s still some powerful song structures to be listened to. “Arctic Exhibition” is completely unexpected. It’s a soft acoustic number, which is sung, and not screamed, featuring Einar Orn (ex-Sugarcubes). Whether you like Jesus Christ Bobby or not, there’s lot’s to listen to.
