Miseria is a Finnish band made up of five people in their early twenties. The line-up is however quite unusual for a metal band as there are three women and two men in the band. The history of Miseria began when a rock band called Desafinado was put to rest. The replacement of a drummer and a guitarist resulted in a migration from light rock to metal. Having started out by playing mostly cover songs they now present material of their own for the second time in the shape of "The Night Of Fetus". Female vocals in metal is not really something that amazes anyone these days but since I am a big fan of several such bands this young band sparked my interest. I am however a little disappointed with the female vocalist as she has a pretty nice voice but seems to be afraid of using it. Her way of singing is more suited for a gothic rock band and the music of Miseria is, at least at the moment, more hard rock / power metal oriented with light structured songs and simple rhythms. She needs to be at least a little bit more aggressive in my opinion to make their music come to life, that goes for the male vocalist in the closing track as well. Male / female duets can be really powerful experiences for the listener but unfortunately Miseria fail to live up to my expectations. There is one song that stand out from the rest though and that is "Nightmare" where we can trace some similarities to mid-period Therion or early Children Of Bodom. For fans of melodic rock / metal Miseria could be of interest I am sure but they fail to make a lasting impression on me. The future may have greater things to bring though.
