REVIEW: Misery Index - Retaliate Nuclear Blast, 2003
7/10
Misery Index - Retaliate - cover art After some time of dwelling in the fertile death metal underground on the North American continent, Misery Index have now been picked up by Nuclear Blast. As many of you probably know this band feature former Dying Fetus members Jason Netherton (bass, vocals), Sparky Voyles (guitars) and Bruce Greig (guitars) and is rounded up by former Severed Head member Matt Byers on drums. While it is the intensity of brutal and well played death metal that makes the basis of this recording, there are also touches of both hardcore and grindcore which altogether create a vivid mixture of extreme music suited extreme well for those of you who fancy brutal metal in general. Misery Index have now grown from a studio project created back in 2001 to a real band with a full line-up. "Retaliate" is in fact the debut full-length release from these Americans. It is a very brutal and tight recording that, despite not being very original, should please most fans of the genre. A good solid release, no more, no less.
