REVIEW: Mistweaver - Age Of Darkness Golden Lake Productions, 2005
6/10
Mistweaver - Age Of Darkness - cover art Well, probably somewhere in the course of any review someone’s gonna mention Moonspell, so I’ll get that out of the way now. By no means does Mistweaver touched the Portugese gods of goth metal, but they’re a decent act nonetheless. Some of the tempo changes and riff transitions seem jumpy, which tends to take a big chunk out of the enjoyability of the songs. Music like this should ebb and flow with a sense of grace, but something prevents that on this particular recording. The songs themselves are generally well-written, but the occasional collective stutter can put a damper on the moody tones that Mistweaver exudes. It might just come down to production or recording conditions, it’s hard to place a finger on the problem. But anyway, this is a minor complaint, and for the most part this is a quality release. If you like your metal dark, a bit gothy and a bit folky.
