Mithras is a
brutal death metal band from England that was first formed in 1998 under the
name Imperator. Apparently they are a very young band but this album still
shows a band that plays very tight together. They have recorded two mini
albums before but since I haven't heard either of them I can't really tell
what kind of progression they have done but I suspect that they have always
played brutal death metal the American way. What I like most about this band
is their use of atmospheric passages and especially the intro track is very
beautiful but also hauntingly scary at the same time. Through their music they
want to bring forth stories of ancient civilisations, spirituality and
dreaming and these are themes that can be easily found in their lyrics. I
don't know if brutal death metal is right for this kind of lyrical content
but who really decides what is right and what is wrong? Mithras is an
interesting band although I think they could progress further in the near
future. You have to realize that this is a mere four-year-old. with themes of
ancient civilisations, spirituality and dreaming running through the music and
lyrics.
