REVIEW: Moonspell - Irreligious Century Media, 1996
6/10
Moonspell - Irreligious - cover art Fernando Ribeiro and his Portuguese gang of vampiric metallers are back again but this time to disappoint me a lot. Sure, the production might be much better and cleaner than "Wolfheart" ever was but the beautiful melodies from their last album seem to have vanished into the air somehow. We are left with dark vocals and erotic lyrics in Portuguese and English as the last time but without the old Moonspell they can never be the same as they once were. This time it is predictable with no surprises and no songs that want to stick to your mind except perhaps for "Raven Claws" which has some of the old Moonspell sound and female vocals from Birgit Zacher as usual. With such perfect production it´s a pity Moonspell didn´t manage to keep their music as classy as the "Wolfheart" album. Percussion on the fourth track was performed by Markus Freiwald. The album was recorded at Woodhouse Studios between the 25th of March and the 11th of May 1996, produced and mixed by the one and only Waldemar Sorychta and engineered by Siggi Bemm.
