REVIEW: Mordichrist - The Blood Rise Self-financed, 2004
6.5/10
Mordichrist - The Blood Rise - cover art There are few female fronted black metal bands in the world today but Sweden's Mordichrist is one of them. This band became more or less well known to a wider audience in the summer of 2003 as their guitarist Chaq Mol (real name Bo Karlsson) joined the Swedish black metal veterans Dark Funeral to replace Matti Mäkelä. This is the band's third demo which was recorded in December 2003. I have not heard the two first demos but I assume that they have moved forward since their early days. Mordichrist play what I would refer to as doomsday black metal, rather typical early to mid 90s Swedish black metal with hints of depressing doom metal. The mixture tends to turn out well for most of the three songs although the second part of "Immemorial" might be the future cure to insomnia. Other than that Mordichrist pass the exam nicely. No top grade but a decent black metal demo and a good, clear enough production. I especially appreciate Nenia's attempts at sounding like a true witch from hell. No Ihriel (Peccatum) here but a follower of the blackest of paths.
