REVIEW: Morgul - All Dead Here Season Of Mist, 2005
10/10
Morgul - All Dead Here - cover art With the possibility of being the "Trent Reznor" of Black metal; Jack the Ripper, the solo driving force behind Morgul unleashes his 5th studio album onto the world and once again jiggles the cerebellum of it's audience. "All Dead Here" kicks off with a symphony worthy compostion instantly shattered by chugging guitars over an industrial backdrop. Morgul paints it's horror filled picture with shades of piano, tranquil keyboards, acoustic guitar and near operatic vocals mixed with rapid fire riffing, guttural screams, blastbeats and malevolent electronica. Of course the painting does not stop there - guest musician Pete Johansen lends his epic violin throughout the album creating a haunting atmosphere and giving the music a awe inspiring third dimension. Atmosphere is the key word here - as this haunting soundscape is carried through the sinews of it's listener from the symphonic beginning to the bone chilling and bitter end. "All Dead Here" is definitely a standount album - showing Morgul as an innovative and imaginative musician whose art does not follow any trend or genre but sit's high on throne all it's own. Standout Tracks: "The Need to Kill", "All Dead Here", "Shackled", "Empty".
