REVIEW: Mors Principium Est - Liberation = Termination Listenable Records, 2007
7.5/10
Mors Principium Est - Liberation = Termination - cover art "Liberation = Termination" finalizes Mors Principium Est's deal with the French label Listenable Records but I doubt they will find it hard to attract another label. Now some background information for those of you who are not familiar with the band yet. Hailing from Finland, these guys have been together since 1999 and this is their third full-length album. Musically they have embraced the Gothenburg sound, giving bands like Soilwork and Dark Tranquillity a decent run for their money. In fact, their technical abilities and instrumental skills might very well surpass these Swedish originators of the genre. Scrutinizing "Liberation = Termination" one will find that it is comprised of incredibly tightly performed and technically challenging songs with a very high level of ambition. To some extent they nonetheless fall into the same trap as many others where the songs become more of a collection of riffs than actual songs, something I really don't mind when it is done as well as this (anyone heard of Opeth?). Far from original but a technically very impressive album.
