REVIEW: Mudslinger - Cover The Sun Lord Slog Records, 2001
5/10
Mudslinger - Cover The Sun - cover art Mudslinger is a fairly new monster growling act from the land of the fifty stars. It wouldn´t be fair to compare them with bands like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse but as far as the ultra-guttural growling goes they aren´t that far away from these two. Mudslinger does however have a more varied sound with both slower and more atmospheric monents as well as aggressive ones. They could perhaps best be described as a mix of doom metal, Morbid Angel and the new American wave of Machine Head metal. Unfortunately the band is lacking a little bit of creative talent and the songs on this album are a little too similar to make it exciting all the way through. This is something they can work on though and with a more mature songwriting Mudslinger could become an interesting band in the future. I don´t know if there are many other bands in the US with a similar sound but Mudslinger seems to have found a style of their own. Now they only need to work hard on developing it further. The album was recorded and mixed at Trident Studios by the vocalist Juan Urteaga and mastered at Imperial Mastering by Colin Davis. Additional vocals on "Lambs" were done by Steev Esquivel and cover art by Mike Bohatch.
