REVIEW: Must Missa - Sex Beyond The Grave (MC) Ketzer / Beverina, 2001
6.5/10
Must Missa - Sex Beyond The Grave (MC) - cover art Must Missa is an Estonian metal band that was formed in 1996 but it wasn't until the year 2000 that they got around to recording their first demo which is now being released as a split mini cassette by the German Ketzer Productions and the Latvijan Beverina Productions. Must Missa play primitive cold black metal with kind of a misanthropic Darkthrone feeling to it. Unfortunately the vocals are often out of place and the sound quality is remarkably awful. This will perhaps not scare you if you are a hardcore Darkthrone fan and the second track of this MC is actually a great energetic song in true Darkthrone style. If you absolutely must have a professional production you should stay away from this release though. All the lyrics are in Estonian but since you wouldn't hear what they were singing even if it was in English it doesn't really matter. If you are a Darkthrone fan there is a fair chance you will enjoy this new upcoming Estonian band. I rarely see through the fingers when it comes to bad sound quality but this kind of music is in need of the Darkthrone sound. This is raw, evil and primal but as if through a miracle it still sounds good. Not exactly the release of the year but still a respectable first effort.
