REVIEW: My Dark Sin - Cogitationes Pulsar Light Records, 2001
7.5/10
My Dark Sin - Cogitationes - cover art This is the debut album from the Italian black metal band My Dark Sin and it is also the first release from the Pulsar Light label which shows a promising future. A lot of people have claimed black metal to be a dead genre without a future. Sure, there are not many bands who really come up with something new but those few who do go really far like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle Of Filth. This does not automatically mean that these two are the only good black metal bands out there. If you listen to MTV or the radio stations, how many of the songs have something that is truelly new? Not many but still there are people who do their thing well and My Dark Sin is one of the black metal bands who take the best from the old inspirational sources on the darker side of music. A lot of black metal bands are lacking strong vocals but this is not the case with this Italian band and on top of that they seem to be skilled musicians as well with some very nice melodies hidden behind the guitars and drum machines. Luckily they know how important it is not only to rely on speed and there are both slower passages and nice wailing clean vocals on this album. The metal media has been praising the Italian band Ephel Duath but in my opinion My Dark Sin is even better.
